Today I have reclaimed my garden.
This last few months it had grown to the point of resembling a mini jungle. Ok… the image above is a slight exaggeration, but only slight.
There was an ever diminishing path to the shed but, since I dug up the last of the potatoes, I haven’t done much in there. A couple of months ago, I did try to cut back the bamboo but, because I have RA there is only so much my hands will take, and it was growing back faster than I could cut it.
So I called someone in to do the job for me.
A friend of mine joked that it was because I am afraid of the spiders who live in it. The cheek of it! True, I
was terrified am afraid of them (and most creepy crawlies, to be honest) but I’ll have you know that I am getting better. The other day there was a BIG spider in my room and I still managed to sleep knowing that it was somewhere, lurking.
At first, I thought of digging the roots up but they were just too big so just as well that the gardener came equipped with a heavy duty hedge trimmer. He cut the whole thing right down and will come back next week to start the killing process.
He also did a lot of tidying. After a few hours he took away two trailers full of greenery.
There is still some tidying to be done but I’m very happy with the result.
Next, I’ll put up some treillis to replace the bamboo. It will block the view from the building on the left and serve as support for next year’s runner beans.
