In my endeavour to batch cook to prepare for the new students season I had to make some space in the freezers. As a general rule, in the UK everything is much smaller than in the US so we have to make every inch count.
I am lucky in that I have 2 freezers: a small under counter one in the kitchen and a larger chest freezer that lives in the shed/garage, but they were both pretty full. As I hate wasting food I tend to keep every scrap. Also, when buying per-packaged cuts, the amount in the pack is not always the same as the amount of people eating and I know that if I keep the extra in the fridge, the chance of it being eaten is slim to none so in the freezer it goes never to come out again.
So, a couple of days ago, I went freezer-diving. I got everything out, re-organised all the packs that had no been opened, made a list of the contents and brought everything else back to the kitchen.
In my freezer expedition, I found quite a bit of meat with freezer burn but I knew that, with a bit of thinking, I would be able to use it.
And use it I have.
I still have a large joint of beef that had been hiding right at the bottom for much longer than I care to remember that I will deal with later on today.
